Random Question #1

On our drive home from the coast this evening, we decided it might be time to create a random question page of a journal or something. Between the two of us we'll come up with random things we'd love to know about the world.

I think it is our hope to find answers to these questions through you, our loyal blog readers.

With that, question #1:
(asked while eating a quick dinner out) - Do you think that Pearl Jam has actually made any new fans? It seems that everybody who ever liked them whatsoever was sort of grandfathered in. But they're still releasing albums - are there any NEW fans out there?

(note from S) To clarify, we are wondering if anyone becomes a Pearl Jam fan upon listening to one of their new albums? Or is Pearl Jam doomed to play at least a couple requisite songs from Ten in order to keep the aging crowd happy?

Tackling life's big questions, one question at a time. (Usually with a beer in hand.)

This weekend we visted Amy's family with Eli, whom they hadn't seen in six weeks (nearly his entire life). The nephews came over, aged 15 and 8 (or is it 9?), and the older boy was wearing an AC/DC shirt.

Shit, AC/DC? How's that relevant to a sophomore? "For those about to rock...."

Anyway, the front of loving the beloved Australian gods of rock comes from the father, who's in his mid-to-upper thirties.

My theory, since I'm reading Darwin: Children sometimes display a love for dad's rock, or for mom's oldies. That means that Pearl Jam could have hereditary fans, inherent fanhood passed like a gene from pop to son.

Take my own appreciation for the Supremes' "Stop in the Name of Love," or Herman's Hermits "Henry the Eighth" as more genetic evidence.

Interesting theory David. I agree entirely - but would pose the further question: Are the relatives passing these songs on passing "Jeremy" and "Even Flow" or material off their later albums? It seemed odd, and still seems odd, that Pearl Jam might be a 3 hit wonder but are still going strong.
